Fusion Bonded Epoxy Powder Coating (Dual Layer FBE)

About

High‑strength dual‑layer fusion‑bonded epoxy (FBE) system for pipelines, using a primer plus top‑coat FBE to provide superior corrosion resistance, cathodic disbondment performance, and mechanical protection for demanding installation and service conditions.

More info from this product

The Dual Layer FBE system from Peka Chemie is a proven upgrade over single‑layer FBE, combining two consecutive epoxy powder layers:

  • First layer: Peka‑Pro Pr (FBE primer) for maximum adhesion to steel and excellent corrosion resistance.
  • Second layer: Specialized top‑coat FBE (e.g., abrasion‑resistant, anti‑slip, ultra‑flexible, or UV‑resistant grades) tailored to the pipeline’s operational needs.

Originally introduced for directional drilling, Dual Layer FBE has since become a versatile solution for pipelines requiring resistance to both chemical degradation and mechanical stresses such as handling, backfilling, or HDD installation.

Key Advantages

  • Excellent cathodic disbondment and corrosion resistance
  • Enhanced mechanical protection against gouging, abrasion, and impact
  • Flexible system — top‑coat can be customized (AR, AS, UF, UV) for project needs
  • Easier application compared to multi‑layer polyolefin systems
  • Effective in both buried and subsea applications

Application Process

  1. Surface Preparation: Blast clean steel surface to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501‑1) profile 50–100 µm
  2. Primer Application: Apply Peka‑Pro Pr at 400 ± 50 µm
  3. Top‑coat Application: Apply second layer FBE at 400 ± 50 µm
  4. Curing: Controlled heating to fully fuse and bond both layers
  5. Cooling & Inspection: Holiday testing, adhesion checks, and thickness measurements
